The story behind Speak To Me Photography
I know what you're thinking, how in the world can boudoir be therapeutic? Being vulnerable, leaping outside of your comfort zone and the uncertainty of what you'll see in the photos. Especially if you're not always in love with what you see in the mirror.
Nothing worth having comes easy, it's the same thing with self confidence, self love and self compassion.
I have not always been kind to myself. Hating how I look, broken down, my mental health and self concept needed healing.
First was my mental health. Starting early in life writing and drawing as a creative means of self expression, to studying graphic design in high school, photography in community college, until I ultimately changed course and transitioned to social work. Dedicating my life to helping individuals to identify, understand and overcome their addictions. Help others unlike the people in my life I couldn't who had similar afflictions.
And then pole happened.
Starting as an attempt to get out of the house during COVID and working from home, and trying something new because I hated the gym. But before I knew it I was addicted myself. Seeing the change in my body, the strength that I was building, the confidence and connection to my sexuality came soon after. I have goals, I was proud, an entirely new woman. I was surrounded by sex positive and encouraging strong women, and I tell you what, my world has never been the same,
I am proud of my body, and even though I don't always love the way it looks, it's a much. healthier relationship. To the point of taking part in a pole photoshoot and seeing myself in a completely different light, literally.
All this to say, Boudoir similarly can be to the same end. When I went through my photoshoot experience, as nerve racking as it was, exposed and ALL of the focus being on me (thank you forever Eagle Eyed Imagery), As terrified as I was, I couldn't believe how strong and amazing they came out. It's like that episode of New Girl where Ally realizes she's beautiful when pregnant after fighting that things were different. The role of a Boudoir Photographer is to provide coaching, assurances and an experience to make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Build trust and a relationship where you can be more comfortable feeling vulnerable, which I am very familiar with. Every step of the way taking mindful consideration of what makes you feel the most confident, sexy and strong, as well as those things that don't. At the end of the day, after being pampered, see yourself as others may see you, and in a completely different light.
It is in this way, that Boudoir is inherently therapeutic. So speak to me, tell me what you love and what you may not, and we will make magic together.
